Strategies on Detecting Authority and Misinformation Online

May 9, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

In this digital age, online users, regardless of their background or credentials, can easily create, interpret, and disseminate information. With a plethora of information being so readily available, it is essential for users to develop a skill set that can distinguish between credible information, misinformation, and disinformation. Additionally, understanding how information evolves from a primary source to a secondary source will also aid users’ understanding of information creation and interpretation. This is a rescheduled National Library Week 2023 presentation.

At the end of this presentation, you will be able to:

  • Distinguish between misinformation and disinformation.
  • List 3-5 examples of a primary source and a secondary source.
  • Evaluate the credibility of sources using at least one strategy discussed during the presentation.
  • Brainstorm helpful dialogues that foster critical thinking skills among students and peers.
