More Than Reflection: Making Self-Assessment Work
February 26 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Self-assessment is a powerful learning strategy—but only when it is intentionally designed. Too often, it is reduced to unstructured reflection or self-grading, limiting its impact.
This session explores how structured self-assessment can improve student learning, strengthen metacognition, and reduce redundant grading effort—without lowering academic standards. Participants will examine practical strategies for helping students evaluate their own work using clear criteria, reflect meaningfully on feedback, and apply insights to future assignments.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the key components of effective self-assessment, including clear criteria, structured reflection, and alignment with learning outcomes.
- Describe how structured self-assessment differs from unstructured reflection or self-grading.
- Explain how self-assessment supports student learning and metacognition in a course setting.
