Effective Rubric Writing

This CETL session will discuss the basics of rubric writing.  The session will cover the different types of rubrics that can be used to evaluate student performance and the benefits and drawbacks of each.  The presentation will also include an interactive segment where several different example rubrics are evaluated including tips to improve their effectiveness.

1. List and describe the two components that comprise a rubric

2. Explain how rubrics are used in an educational setting

3. List and describe the four types of rubrics

4. Assess the quality of a rubric to determine if it provides effective feedback to the student
