Faculty Focus: Converting your Lecture Course into Team-Based Learning
May 16, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Team-based learning (TBL) is a collaborative teaching and learning strategy that uses a structured process to enhance student engagement and the quality of student learning. TBL faculty report high levels of student attendance, preparation, participation and critical thinking. TBL students report enjoying class, and being more motivated and actively engaged.
For the current Spring term, Dr. Yawen Peng, DMD, MA has transformed her lecture-based course, Intro to Pediatric Medicine, into a dynamic and fully engaged Team-Based Learning course for her 70 Biomedical Science students.
During this session we will hear from Dr. Peng about her experience in changing the pedagogy and course structure. How did she start to prepare for the Lecture-to-TBL transition? What worked? What didn’t? How have the students reacted to the TBL format this year, as compared to the Lecture format of last year?
Come to this Faculty Focus session and learn, peer-to-peer, how to convert your lecture-format into an invigorating Team-Based Learning course!
