How I Am Successfully Experimenting with Generative AI to Support My Teaching

In this CETL presentation, we will explore how Generative AI, specifically ChatGPT, can be employed to support teaching in health sciences. Dr. Stevenson will share his first steps in integrating AI into content creation, showcasing real-life examples. Participants will be encouraged to identify their own content creation challenges, and one of these challenges will be addressed using ChatGPT in a live demonstration. Ultimately, attendees will leave with insights into how Generative AI can enhance their teaching and learning experiences through providing specific examples of how Dr. Stevenson has utilized it.

1. Understanding Generative AI in Education: By the end of this session, participants will understand the potential applications of generative AI in educational settings, specifically in health science instruction.
2. Identifying Content Creation Challenges: Participants will be able to identify common challenges they face in content creation for teaching, such as time constraints, creativity, or resource limitations, and recognize how these challenges impact their teaching effectiveness.
3. Leveraging ChatGPT for Pedagogical Enhancement: After the session, attendees will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to begin using ChatGPT or other generative AI tools to begin addressing at least one content creation challenge in their teaching, thereby enhancing their instructional materials and methods in health science education
