Innovating Anatomy with 3D Printing Technologies & Lab Tour
August 22, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
3D Medical Printing continues to be one of the top trends in medical education. Here at WesternU we have the equipment and the opportunity to be at the cutting-edge of this trend. With the help of the EdTech Team, faculty can develop 3D models and prototypes for use in their courses.
Published research outlines how 3D printed models can provide an appropriate supplement to cadaveric materials and may even have certain benefits over the organic materials. Furthermore, a 2019 study suggests that 3D printing has the potential to significantly improve research knowledge and the skills of new practitioners.
During this session we will share examples of how 3D printing is currently utilized in medical education. Attendees will get to tour the 3D Printing Lab and learn about the technology and materials available here at WesternU. Lastly, attendees will use their new knowledge and inspiration to begin brainstorming on how to merge their current practices with 3D technologies for further development and learning opportunities in the classroom.
Learning Objectives:
- Define how 3D printing is currently used in medical education
- Identify the available printing technologies and materials available at the 3D Printing Lab
- Begin to prepare a plan to develop 3D models and use those assets in the curriculum
