So, You Think You Can Publish? Planning a Teaching and Learning Research Project

Do you incorporate evidence-based teaching practices into your course(s) at WesternU? Are you looking for ways to boost your CV with a research publication? Did you know, with a little work, you can turn teaching best practices–aka scholarly teaching–into a publication? Come learn the differences between scholarly teaching, the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), and educational research. We will discuss possible research questions, data collection methods, and appropriate conferences and journals for a teaching and learning research project. Whether you are a seasoned educator, or are starting your journey into research, come get started on your research plan so you can–indeed–publish!
Learning Objectives:
- Distinguish between scholarly teaching, the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL), and educational research
- Brainstorm possible research questions and methods for a teaching and learning research project
- Identify SoTL resources to assist with research project planning
