Spring into Play: Reimagining Classic Games for Academic Learning (In Person)

Dust off your favorite childhood games and give them an academic glow-up! This interactive show-and-tell demonstrates how to transform classic board games like Guess Who? and Clue into content-rich learning experiences that boost student engagement and reinforce key concepts. You will also explore simple, low-tech ways to use buzzers, dice, and cards for meaningful academic learning. You’ll experience examples, align activities with Bloom’s taxonomy, and brainstorm adaptations for your own discipline. Then, walk away with customizable ideas you can plug into your course this semester.
Learning Objectives:
- Match common academic games to appropriate levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy.
- Explain how game mechanics can support student learning and engagement.
- Identify at least one way to adapt a classic game for use in your course or discipline.
NOTE: This show-and-tell will take place on the Pomona Campus esplanade in front of the Health Sciences Center (HSC) building. Drop in anytime between 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM to come play.
