CETL/WSC: Starting and Navigating Difficult Conversations
April 22, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Do you find it challenging to start conversations that are important to you? Or maybe you end up in a heated discussion about something you’re passionate about and it ends with no real resolution in sight? Join us for this session that can help in both professional and personal settings.
By the end of this session, attendees will be better able to:
- Prepare themselves to have difficult conversations
- Determine when a conversation is no longer “safe” and how to bring it back to “safety”
- Use emotional intelligence (EQ) techniques for a more effective conversation
- Identify when it is appropriate to begin problem-solving and/or “next action” steps
Who should attend? WesternU employees at any level who engage or may engage in difficult one-on-one conversations or meetings.
We will be using the book “Crucial Conversations: Tools for Talking When Stakes are High” as the centerpiece of this session along with real-life examples to aid in understanding these concepts.
