STEP 3: Technology Selection

The Four Steps of Online Teaching

Use the technology to create as many opportunities as possible for learners to see each other, each other’s work, and you. Select technologies and approaches that are familiar to you and your students to minimize disruption to your teaching during a stressful time.

A variety of technology tools are available for you to teach online whether you choose to deliver it synchronously via web conferencing applications, or asynchronously by pre-recording your lectures.

Zoom Web Conferencing

Zoom allows class sizes to expand and contract seamlessly. Instructors simply create a link for each Zoom meeting through the web portal and then share it with their students. Teaching with Zoom is greatly facilitated by certain features, which help the class to stay focused.

PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint gives instructors the ability to add or record audio to the PowerPoint slides, which can then be saved and distributed as a presentation file.  Adding your voice to PowerPoint slides is a pretty easy process, and it can turn a presentation from a plain set of slides into a self-contained instructional asset that stands alone and can be used by students to self-teach.

    • Asynchronous

Mediasite
