The AAMC agrees: providing a learning environment that is as challenging as it is respectful, supportive and inclusive is critical in developing the health care provider whose EQ skills match their IQ prowess. In this workshop we will investigate how health care educators can use the model of Appreciative Inquiry to create a safe learning environment for all, cultivate and sustain trust in their relationships with students and support them effectively in their learning.
Learning Objectives:
- Discuss how an atmosphere of “disarmament” can be cultivated for a safe learning environment
- Demonstrate how open-ended questions support learning
- Describe how the use of positive focus and high expectations can become a valuable tool for students’ overall wellness
- Explain how active listening plays an important role in creating a safe learning environment
