20 Minute Mentor | 3 Calendar Hacks Faculty Can Use to Avoid Stress and Burnout
October 5, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
In today’s academic world, between teaching, research, administration, and a seemingly endless to-do list, higher ed professionals can easily feel overwhelmed. Balancing between these roles often leads to stress and burnout. To help with this balancing act, this CETL session will dive into strategies for time management via this 20-minute Mentor video from Magna Publications. Practical tools and techniques that we will cover include Calendar blocking for different tasks, tweaking notifications, and elements of a “Term Planning Day.” Join us for this facilitated discussion to review effective ways to optimize your schedules, reduce stress, and avoid burnout, ensuring a more balanced and productive academic life, because as we learned in a previous CETL session (Yacht Rocking: Setting Sail to Improve Faculty, Staff, and Student Well-Being), burnout is preventable.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the session, attendees will be able to:
- Describe how color-coding and using advanced online tools can transform your day-to-day scheduling and long-term term planning.
- Explain how to customize reminders based on their importance and employ unique alert sounds to help differentiate and prioritize tasks.
- List at least 2 different elements of a “Term Planning Day” that allocate time for upcoming terms.
