Let’s face it, oftentimes students will exhibit behaviors that are disruptive because they are seeking a certain response from the educator and others in the learning environment. If the correct response is not received, the disruptive behavior continues. These behaviors are a form of communication that is employed to meet emotional and psychological needs. This session will explore the 4 most common needs experienced in learning and group environments and the best responses to illicit a positive response.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify common goal driven student behaviors;
- Recognize the 4 main intrinsic motivational goals driving human behaviors commonly observed in learning environments;
- Consider a framework to guide the selection of a positive response to common student behaviors that help to maintain a positive learning environment.
